Just a little FYI on some custom quests.

I know most UO players are used to talking to NPCs via context menu or quest menus, but some of these guys respond to keywords. This is similar to old Sierra style games, and early PC RPGs. For Example: There a funny looking vase in the corner and Tim is standing nearby. All the double clicking and context menus in the world will get you no where, but saying "Hey Tim, what's up with that vase?" will start Tim to talking like he can't shut up. Pay attention to what he says and look for clues in what he says. Some of the dialogue lines will contain hints to other keywords that Tim might know something about.

Tim: "That vase contains the soul of a paladin cursed by an evil wizard named Morgoth"

You: "Who's Morgoth?"

Tim: "Morgoth is...." So on and so forth.

So try some things out. Explore. Put a little adventure in your adventure.

Hope this helps someone. Later!

Ok this isn't a definitive guide or anything, nor is this a way to install Ultima Online on every version of Linux, but it is what worked for me.

Currently I am using Linux Mint 22 with the KDE Plasma desktop environment.

To start off with, the ClassicUO's Linux variant, as far as I can tell, no longer works properly. It used to, but with recent updates to Linux, it just doesn't now. Not 100% anyway. I'm fairly certain its just the windows version with an outdated emulator anyway. Could be wrong. I tried this on multiple Ubuntu variants, like Linux Mint, and Kubuntu. A few Debian based variants, and one Arch based system thats more Arch "inspired" than a true Arch system. No bueno.

I did a lot of updating, hoping that something was missing, that was causing it to fail. Then it occurred to me. It's just an emulated version of the windows variant.

So I installed Bottles. In non Linux user terms, Bottles creates a windows directory and allows you to install a .exe file into it. You can then run it from the bottle. It's surprisingly effective.

So I created my bottle. Browsed it's directory, and placed the unzipped versions of ClassicUO and UO Immortal in 2 folders on the desktop. Then I went back to the menu for bottles, and clicked "run executable" I then navigated to ClassicUOLauncher and ran it once. The first time it runs, it creates a bunch of files and updates itself. After that, the same file is used to launch UO, so I closed it, went back to Bottles, and clicked add shortcut. This allows me to make a shortcut for ClassicUOLauncher in the main directory of the bottle.

Now I skipped all the steps about setting up ClassicUO, and configuring it. I'm assuming you know all that already, and if not, that is the topic for another post. I will say though, that ClassicAssist does not run currently in Linux, nor could I get it to run, but razor enhanced runs perfectly. Especially from within the bottle.

After setting all this up, I decided to have a little fun and install reshade as well. Reshade is generic post-processing injector for games and video software. What that means is... it adds shaders and effects to your UO. I just downloaded this to my downloads folder. Repeated the process from bottles of installing a .exe file (from the Ultima Online bottle). When reshade asks which file I want to attach it to, you will navigate inside your bottle to the ClassicUO folder, finder ClassicUO.exe and target it. I personally like the Anti-Aliasing effects, and I use a darker color curve.

It's going to ask you which rendering engine you use for your game, which if you use the default, its directx11. Then it will ask you which shaders you want to install. The correct answer is all. Go nuts. Pro tip: Click the uncheck all button to unlock the check all button.

And that's it guys and gals. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. You have about a 50/50 chance of me actually knowing, but I can do research with the best of them. We will find a way. Hope to see you in game!

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share a cool experience I had in-game today that gave me a fresh perspective on how to play. Up until now, I was pretty focused on power farming for gold. But today, I decided to mix things up by focusing on selling and collecting items from loot drops, and honestly, it was way more fun than anticipated.

Instead of mindlessly grinding for gold, I took my time gathering items and exploring the town to find the best places to sell them. It got me thinking: what if the game had a more defined merchant role? Imagine a character who specializes in trading, traveling between towns to find the best prices for their wares. It would be a whole new way to interact with the game’s economy and add a little more life into what already exists.

To make this even more immersive, I thought of incorporating the Item Identification skill. This could be used not only to appraise items but also to help merchants discover where they can get the best deals on different goods. This would give players a reason to visit multiple towns, interact with different markets, and add an extra layer of strategy to item collection and sales.

Considering prices from NPCs and internal game limits, this shouldn't be able to break the economy. All it will do, is add another step into the process of turning your time into in game currency. Whether it be lockpicking a chest, slaying a monster, or hunting down a fellow merchant in need. This allows you to get the most from your time, and do something other than kill, loot, and repeat.

Either way, it seems like a step in the right direction to tie everything in the game together into one cohesive world.

They are both UO assistant programs that automate actions in game and will help you click less and enjoy the game more. The How to Connect page in the Wiki explains how to download and activate a plugin within ClassicUO.

Razor:

Razor is a tool designed to help with simple tasks while playing Ultima Online. You can use it as a plugin with ClassicUO, but it can also be used as a standalone program. Click here for a link to the Razor download page.

ClassicAssist:

ClassicAssist has a UOSteam-like interface and macro syntax. It allows for complex automated actions, though there is a learning curve when you start learning to write macros with it. Click here for a link to its download page.
